ABC Maine becomes the first organization to endorse Shawn Moody for Governor: At its June meeting, ABC Maine’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to endorse Moody, with members citing Moody’s own business experience and his commitment to supporting and promoting a free, open, and fair marketplace as key reasons for their endorsement of his candidacy. ABC Maine is the first organization to formally endorse Moody’s candidacy.
“ABC Maine is proud to endorse Shawn Moody for governor. Moody is firmly committed to the free market values that ABC Maine supports, and Maine’s construction companies can trust Moody to understand the industry’s needs and challenges. Like so many construction company owners in Maine, Moody built a business from the ground up and has felt the sting of the bad times and the excitement of the good times. He knows the challenges we face, and he wants to see the construction industry – and industry overall – thrive in Maine,” said ABC Maine President & CEO, Hope Perkins, upon announcing the ABC Maine endorsement.
Michael Bennett, Chair of the ABC Maine Board of Directors added, “Shawn Moody has the business experience and the knowledge necessary to continue growing our state’s economy through smart, business-friendly policies. From his commitment to working to alleviate the ‘skills gap’ and encourage more Mainers to enter the trades, to his support of free market values, to his understanding of business needs overall, Moody has the right ideas about the policies Maine needs for our economy to keep growing. Shawn Moody understands business, is a problem-solver, and is the right person to be Maine’s next governor.”
Shawn Moody shared his approach to working with Maine’s construction industry to address the skilled worker shortage and strengthen the economy. “I am honored to have the support of the membership of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Maine. I will work tirelessly to restore the pride and gratification associated with working in the trades. We have a shortage of skilled trade professionals in this State. We must bring awareness and understanding of the employment opportunities that exist and ensure our educational systems are positioned to support all students with career ready educational opportunities. I know the best way for someone to succeed is to have a great paying job and Maine’s construction industry plays a critical role in our economy. As an entrepreneur, I have helped create jobs all over Maine. We have built buildings in several local communities. We will address the regulatory barriers to entry for start-up businesses as well as streamlining approvals for expanding or relocating existing businesses. As your next Governor I will help Maine people succeed by supporting good paying jobs, and working with those in the construction industry to build an even stronger economy,” he said.
Moody opened his own auto repair shop when he was a high school student, and over the years he has grown the business to 11 locations across the state with 200 employees. ABC Maine members believe that a firm understanding of what it takes to run a business and hire employees in the state is a crucial trait for a successful governor, and a successful Maine economy.

128th Maine Legislative Session: Although there “finally” appears to be light at the end of the tunnel with regards to an adjournment date, the legislature continues to hang on and once again left the building late Tuesday night without finishing their work. The plan is that they will return to work on July 9th, when presumably, they will deal with final measures, including the bonds. This has been an exhausting year for all involved to say the least. When its finally over, we will provide a session recap. Stay tuned. Please feel free to contact either Tim Walton firstname.lastname@example.org or myself if you have questions or comments.
